SARANAC LAKE – In keeping with the tradition of this true community event, the public is welcome to vote on next year's Saranac Lake Winter Carnival theme.
Winter Carnival Committee members chose five potential themes at their annual organizational meeting at the Saranac Lake High School on Tuesday. Members pooled together a list of more than 50 theme ideas, some that were resubmitted from past years and others proposed from the community this year.
The five themes chosen are: Adirondack Fiesta, Beach Party, Haunted Adirondacks, Prehistoric Park and The Groovy 60’s.
People interested in voting for their favorite of the five themes have many options, including contacting a committee member, submitting a vote on the Winter Carnival Facebook page or through the contact section on the Carnival's website, www.saranaclakewintercarnival.com. In addition, it is tradition in Saranac Lake for readers of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise to vote for their favorite theme in the paper's online poll at www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com. The poll will run on the Enterprise website from March 17-24. The deadline to submit votes via the other sources is April 4.
The Committee will be combining results of the multiple polls as a source of input from the community, and the choice will then be based on many factors to make its final decision on the 2015 theme. The theme selection will take place on April 8 by the Committee and will be announced to the public at a later date. The 2015 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival will be held from February 6-15.
The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee, formally known as the Society for Promotion of Winter Carnival, Saranac Lake, Inc., is a group of volunteers dedicated to organizing an annual mid-winter festival. This 10-day, communitywide event traces its roots to a one-day Winter Carnival held in 1897 by the Pontiac Club. The Carnival honors its heritage every year by building an Ice Palace from blocks of ice harvested from Lake Flower’s Pontiac Bay, where carnival events have been traditionally held for generations.
