SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee will introduce a new event at this year's festivities called the Little Ladies' Fry Pan Toss. The event will be held on Saturday, February 6 at 12:30 p.m. at Riverside Park and is open to girls in two groups; ages 8-12 and ages 13-17. Contestants toss a fry pan down a marked course with the furthest throw winning. There is no cost to participate and registration is required at the event between 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Little Ladies' Fry Pan Toss will take place before the Taylor Rental Ladies' Fry Pan Toss at 1:00 p.m. which requires registration at the event between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event is one of the most popular at the carnival each year, and we expect our new twist on the original to be a crowd-pleaser too.
Another new event this year is the Arctic Golf Build-an-Obstacle Contest to be held on February 6 between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Prescott Park. The contest is open to community organizations, businesses or individuals to build a miniature golf obstacle out of snow for the Arctic Golf event the following day. Prizes will be awarded for the three most creative obstacles with first place winning $100 and a Winter Carnival medal, and second and third places winning a Winter Carnival medal. There is no cost to participate and the registration form for the contest is available on the carnival's website at www.saranaclakewintercarnival.com. Completed registration forms should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by February 1.
The Little Ladies' Fry Pan Toss and the Arctic Golf Build-an-Obstacle Contest are great additions to the non-traditional events that carnival participants look forward to each year. These fun events are just a few of the many taking place throughout the 10-day winter carnival which has a history of providing winter entertainment since 1897.
