Arctic Golf Build-an-Obstacle Contest Winners

SARANAC LAKE – The Arctic Golf Build-an-Obstacle Contest was held on February 4 and challenged contestants to build miniature golf obstacles out of snow for the Arctic Golf event which was held the following day.

The three most creative obstacles, out of nine in total, were chosen by the Winter Carnival King John Wamsganz and Queen Anita Meserole, and their accompanying royalty. The first prize award of $100 and a Winter Carnival medal went to the Saranac Lake High School Key Club who created an obstacle which involved twists, turns, a ramp, chute and dangling stuffed animals. The second prize award of a Winter Carnival medal went to North Country School who created a beaver with fish swimming nearby. The third prize award of a Winter Carnival medal went to the Saranac Lake Women's Civic Chamber who created a ramp with a Plinko-style game board made of colorful ice characters.

Other contestants included Saranac Lake ArtWorks and BluSeed Studios, North Country Community College, St. Joseph's Addiction Treatment and Recovery Center, Paul Smith's College, Adirondack Research, and The Nature Conservancy. The Saranac Lake Youth Center also built a snowman at the event just for the fun of it.

The public is welcome to view the contestants' obstacles at Prescott Park near the Lake Flower State Boat Launch on River Street.
