Grand Marshal Ron Keough
Ron Keough is a native of Saranac Lake and a graduate of St. Bernard’s School and Saranac Lake High School. He graduated from Simmons Mortuary School in 1957 and was owner/manager of Keough & Son Funeral Home from 1957 to 1991. Ron has been associated with the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home since 1991.
Ron married Margaret Ann McTaggart on November 30, 1957 and they raised five sons – Mike, Pat, Tim, Brendan and Bryan – here in Saranac Lake. Ron has been an active community volunteer including being a member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Past President of both the Lions Club and the Rotary Club, former Chairman of the Saranac Lake Red Cross and Saranac Lake Cancer Society, a Little League coach, Pee Wee Hockey Coach, and other organizations too numerous to mention.
Ron has held numerous positions in the Town of Harrietstown including Deputy Supervisor, Supervisor, Councilman, Town Representative to the 1980 Olympic Organizing Committee, 1980 Olympic Air Transportation Committee and Representative to the Empire State games.
Grand Marshall Keough is a current Franklin County Coroner and has served in that capacity for a total of 49 years. Ron organized the New York State Coroners and Medical Examiners Association and served as its president for 8 years.
Ron’s and his wife Peg organized the Rotary Show for 9 years and has been a Rotary dancer for over 40 years. Ron was also King of Winter Carnival in 1986 alongside his mother, Queen Mildred Keough. Click here for a more complete list of Mr. Keough’s community and political involvements.
