Mistre Abébé Newton- Mistre began her life in Saranac Lake after being adopted along with her brother Abraham from Ethiopia at the age of 6. She is a 3 season athlete as well as a member of National Honor Society, student council, Key club, French club, Green Storm and secretary of her class. She would like to thank all the people who have helped her through her school years, especially her parents Phil Newton and Dianne Fortado, as well as her sisters Abi and Lizzy who have always been there for her. Mistre is currently enrolled in the New Vision program and plans on attending college to go into the medical field. One of her favorite memories is being a page in 2010 and dancing on this stage. Mistre is very honored to yet again be a part of Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Court.

World Premiere of 'Ice Palace, A Love Letter' Movie
2019-10-08 - During the 2016 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, New York City Filmmaker Mark Burns came to Saranac Lake to capture the process from start to finish of what it takes to make the carnival happen. That year, the weather gave us many challenges, and Mark's camera caught all the drama. We're excited that Mark’s film, 'Ice Palace, A Love Letter', will have its world premiere at the Lake Placid Film Festival on October 27, 2019 at 6:30 p.m.
